8/16/21: What's one weird belief you used to have when you were a kid?
One weird belief that I remember having as a child was that people in their 20’s were adults and had everything figured out. Now as I am in my late 20’s I realize that is completely not true. While I may have more responsibilities right now, I definitely do not have everything figured out. Even as I write this I have no idea what I am going to make for dinner tonight after this class. I think in part this has to do with when people asked me as at 13 or 14 years old “where do you see yourself in 10 years?” my instant answer was “wow I’ll be 23 or 24 then, that’s so old.” So I would instantly reply with “well I hope to be done with college, in a career that I am happy at, and hopefully starting a family.” But now that I am pass both of those ages and back in college I really look back and laugh at the young girl who thought that people in their 20’s are adults because I know that I am definitely not yet.
8/23/21: What's one weird underrated quality that you find attractive in a person? Why?
One weird underrated quality I find attractive in a person is when they are goal oriented. I think that people who have dreams and aspirations in life are really attractive. I like having a conversation with people about where they see themselves and then they actually have an answered. It could be personal goals, career goals, or just life. I love asking people “where do you see yourself in 5 years” and honestly I hold a lot of value in that answer sometimes. Don’t get me wrong people who are go with the flow type of people are admirable too but I like when people really have something they are striving for.
8/30/21: If you could be born in another era in history, which would you choose? Why?
If I could be born in another era in history I would want to live in the Victorian Era. I think that this would be an interesting time to be born in because this was a time with a lot of innovation. This was the time that cities were becoming cities and figuring out new technology. I also liked that the women wore dresses and corsets. I feel like this era you would see what it was like to see towns and cities be established. It would be a world without technology entirely but you would also get to firsthand experience how technology begins to change everything. Jack the Ripper was also terrorizing the streets at this time which now is something so fascinating to learn about. There are a lot of things though about this era that do not appeal to me, like the famine, but I think that is with every era.
9/8/21 When I am angry, I tend to...
I have different reactions to things when I am angry. If it is just something that I am mad at that something did I will probably call a friend and talk the situation over with them to try and calm down. I like to get different perspectives on the situation to try and see the other side of what is making me mad. Now if I’m angry at what someone said to me I will most likely spend the next hour replaying the conversation in my head of better come backs that I wish I would have said. But I will say that my most typical response when I am angry is to angry cry. I feel like this happens when I don’t know what emotion to feel so I just end up shedding like one or two tears. I do not like to be angry in general.
9/13/21 If your life were a video game, which level would be the most difficult to get through? Why?
If my life were a video game I think that level 19 (in reference to 19 years old) would be the most difficult to get through. This was the level in my life that I struggled with the most. I struggled with what my future were hold. I struggled to find the right people in my life that were a strong and reliable group of people to be around. It was a time that I was slowly figuring out what it meant to be an adult as I was faced with a lot of difficult decisions that are still affecting me to this day. I think that I was faced with the most obstacles and didn’t always make the best decisions during this level and I was forced to face the consequences of my actions. I trusted the wrong people but also found myself during this time. Level 20 was a lot better though.
9/20/21: What is one phrase you wish you could ban from everyone’s vocabulary? Why?
One phrase that I would ban from everyone vocabulary would be “living the dream”. This phrase is often said in a sarcastic tone because the person in fact is often not living the dream. I think that this phrase really has some double meanings behind it and I think that the idea that we are all chasing the same “dream” as the phrase originates from doesn’t really make sense. I think that what someone looks at as boring or uninteresting could be someone else’s ideal environment. I think that if you find yourself saying that a little too much you should look around and maybe change some patterns that you have in your life. The phrase living the dream should only be saved for when you in fact are living the dream.
9/27/21: If you could become Earth's official tour guide to aliens, where would you take them? Why?
If I could become Earth’s official tour guide for aliens I would take them to Epcot in Florida. I think that I would take them to Epcot because they would be able to experience different countries in one area. The aliens would be able to eat food for other countries so it would be the best experience if they only had one day. I think that if they were to go here they would be able to experience a much of different things like the rides and culture. I think that if they only had one day it would be the best way to experience as much as they can. Now if they had more than one day then I think it would be fun to take them to Italy where they would be able to go to museums and experience culture from earlier in history. Also if I was showing them around it would be easy to travel and not take a lot of time out of the day to fly to other parts of the world like Ireland or Africa.
10/4/21: What's something about your life now you would miss when you're 80? Why?
I think that I will miss being able to go for hikes. I feel like at this point I can do any terrain and not be that worried but I think once I am 80 I will have to be careful where I walk everywhere. In general I am going to miss everything when I am 80. The thought of growing old has always bothered me and it’s not really something that I want to do. I think too that as the technology keeps changing I will miss being excited for it and getting to see what comes next. Limited opportunities is another one. I feel like I have time right now to still do things and make decisions but when I am that age I will not.
10/11/21: Describe a new Olympic sport in which you would definitely medal.
If there was an Olympic Sport for taking a situation and overreacting to it. I feel like with any given situation I can take it and stress about it. Tell me we need to talk and I can instantly think of 100 things that you might need to talk to me about when all you wanted to know was what I was wearing or wanted to eat for dinner. I think you could say something to me and I could run with it and make it into something that it is not. I like to refer to this as spiraling. I would get a gold medal in spiraling. I usually say this when I am overthinking and overreacting to a situation because I am reading too much into it and making it something that it is not. Some call it a bad thing but I like to call it being prepared for every possible situation.
10/18/21 Imagine your daily routine had been turned into a reality show. Which parts would be most talked about? Why?
I think that the parts that world be the most talked about would be the way that I talk to my cats. They would all probably think that I am insane and that’s okay because at least they are living happy lives. Also the fact that I can binge watch tv shows and not get bored for hours at a time. There would probably be comment on the fact that I don’t leave the house that much unless I have to because I have become very used to staying inside since last year. Also the amount of Tiktok that I watch is probably unhealthy. Really I am boring now and no one would want to watch a reality show about me, it would really just be about my cats. Also is she really rewatching a show again.
10/25/21 What's one sign that you would probably stay friends with someone for life? How do you know?
I think with the power of social media and technology it is really easy to stay connected to people that you no longer live close to. I met one of my best friends in college but she moved back to the suburbs after graduation. Honestly if it wasn’t for being able to stay in touch long distance it would be harder to keep up the friendship but thanks to phones that is eliminated. We met at work and we were really just acquaintances but after we worked together for a while we decided to hang out after work. We eventually just started hanging out all the time after work. We realized that we had a lot of fun together. Eventually we both graduated but what makes our friendship work is that we have always been each other’s go to. She comes to me for everything she’s struggling with and I go to her. We both recognize that effort has to be put in but honestly we just have personalities where if we go a week without talking to each other we don’t take it personal we understand that we both have a lot going on and we respect that. I’m honestly not sure if there was an exact moment that I knew that I would be friends with her for life but I definitely know that it would take a lot of us to not be friends.
11/3/21: Imagine we all had to start over on Mars and you were responsible for choosing who gets to part of Humanity 2.0. How would you decide on who to accept?
I would decide on who to accept by people with skills first. I would need people who know about electricity, plumbing, construction and everyday skills that are needed for building and keeping a town working with the basic needs. Next I would accept children as they have not had a chance to show their true colors and not are hopefully not completely tainted by the present world too much. There would be adults like teachers and parents who would pass any background check. Other would be allowed too if they passed the background check.
11/8/21: Describe a moment that made you feel like a real grown-up.
A moment that I felt like a real grown-up was when I paid off my car. This was a really big moment for me because I paid off my car the same day that I accepted my first big girl job right out of college. It was an awesome moment for me because that was one less debt that I had to worry about as that 6 month grace period closed in with having to pay back student loans. I think the moment stuck out to me because it was a time that I financially was in a really good position, but now being back in school my financial situation has changed a lot so I think that is why I felt like an adult because I was paying my bills off and very independent. I think the feeling of feeling like a grown up really comes and goes with little moments that I am proud of myself for accomplishing on my own.
11/15/21 If you didn't have to sleep every night, what would you do with all the extra time?
If I didn’t have to sleep every night I think that I would be really happy. I would be able to get so much accomplished. I would be able to get all of my household chores done without being tired. I would also have more time to do things that I like. I would be able to read and maybe pick up a hobby. I also think that I would be able to do a lot more with my life. If I didn’t have to sleep every night I could take trips during the night which would mean that I would get to do more. I think that quality of life would improve if there was more time in the day. I think the phrase and feeling of “not enough time in the day” would be gone because you would literally have so much more time to do things. I think that I would really thrive without having to stop what I was doing. Sleep has stopped me from having fun on a lot of occasions so it would be nice if the fun didn’t have to stop.
